Introduction
Marketing, as a programme, was introduced into the Polytechnic in 1993.  At that time, it was placed under the Department of Accountancy.  In 1997, however, the Marketing unit was elevated to a full department in September 2001 in response to the growing student population.

Mission
Our mission as a department is to provide quality education in marketing and produce practically oriented marketing personnel for industry and commerce.  We are also committed to providing consultancy services in marketing.

Goals and Objectives
We seek to train students and equip them with managerial and entrepreneurial skills to enable them become self-employed or assume middle-level management positions in commerce and industry.  In this regard our objectives are to;

  • Offer students the opportunity to catch up on the latest marketing techniques through effective lectures, workshops and industrial visits;
  • Cater for the marketing needs of the public through training, workshops, seminars and public lectures;
  • Conduct and encourage research in marketing and make the results available to the Polytechnic students and the general public; and
  • Co-operate with other educational institutions in developing exchange programmes for the benefit of students and lecturers in marketing.

Programmes

 

Presently, the Department offers a three year Higher National Diploma (HND) programme in Marketing, Diploma in Business Studies (DBS), and Diploma in Business Administration (DBA, Marketing Option). The Department has been accredited by the London Centre of Marketing to run various professional courses in the following areas:

 

.   Diploma/Professional Diploma in Sales & Marketing Management

.   Diploma/Professional Diploma in Travel & Tourism Marketing

.   Diploma /Professional Diploma in Business Management & Marketing

-   Diploma /Professional Diploma in Public Relations & Marketing

 

Arrangements are underway to start these programmes this academic year.

Staff Position

 

The Department has staff strength of twenty three teaching and two Administrative staff. Of the twenty three teaching staff, two are undergoing Ph. D programmes in various.
